CURRENT EXHIBIT: “Illuminating Cadiz-Lumieres by Dana Major” opens May 22) and runs through July 23. There will be an opening reception this afternoon, 4-6 PM, with an artist talk at 4:30.

Dana Major is a Chicago based, interdisciplinary light artist, and she is thrilled to bring her art to Trigg County, Kentucky, where her family roots run deep. Dana’s art is created by using repurposed domestic glass pieces and welded steel. All are welcome to join us and view this unique exhibit!

Dana will also be offering multiple free interactive sessions and workshops throughout her exhibit. On Saturday, May 23 at 1 PM, Dana invites museum visitors to transform the light of her Lumières on display using specially crafted hand-held lenses, prisms, and color filters. She will guide participants through fun, hands-on experimentation using these simple tools.

That same afternoon at 1:30 PM, Dana is offering visitors the chance to see the colorful surprise of their own family glass illuminated on the Janice Mason Museum walls! Any see-through glass that you can shine a flashlight through at home can be illuminated at the museum! Bring 1-3 pieces of glass to participate in this demonstration. (You will be the only handler of your glass during this fun afternoon!)

Admission to all exhibits at the Janice Mason Art Museum is always free.
